The desktop computer, known sometimes as the PC or personal computer. These are computers that are designed to be stationary either in a home or office usually. These are opposed to a laptop which is designed to travel with you. When computers were first made, they were the size of a room. So the first desktop computer, even though it was huge compared to our PC’s of today, they were still considered small and compact.

There is a wide variety of desktop computers on the market. The size of these computers range however, usually from company to company. The tower size can either come in standard or slim. They can also lay flat on the side or stand vertical. And some computers have even put their components into the monitor so there is no tower at all.

Monitors differ from PC to PC as well. The first monitors were very heavy and bulky and huge. The first monitors were large but with the invention of the flat screen that has changed. These new flat panels are also light. They are getting less expensive while the technology gets better and better. There are now even touch screen models to buy.

The all-in-one unit is a very cool design of desktops. It is the most space saving computer available. Instead of having a separate tower that houses the computer’s mother board and all of it’s functioning parts, it is all built in to the back of the monitor. This is a great idea for people who have very limited space.

While laptops have everything built in, the desktop has an external mouse and keyboard. You can choose from many different styles of mouses and keyboards as well as external speakers for your PC. The choices for accessories is limitless.

PC’s are typically better choices than laptops because they tend to function better. They can handle graphics and video games better and usually have more memory and RAM which is why people choose them when looking for a gaming computer or graphics editing. Laptops can also break more often because they are transportable.

Because as time goes on, technology improves, a PC is a better choice because they can be easily upgraded. Memory and RAM can be added even by the least tech savvy person. Also things like wireless networking cards can be added as well with just a few screws. Trying to perform these tasks on your laptop can be frustrating and you run a lot more risk of damaging the computer. Choosing a PC is an all around better deal when shopping for a computer.
